Product Description

Reduction™ oxygen scavenger removes dissolved oxygen from divalent brine fluids, such as Newpark’s proprietary Fusion™ drilling fluid system. The Fusion system is a uniquely formulated brine system that uses advanced fluid engineering to increase bit life, improve lubricity and manage corrosion.

Application Application

Reduction oxygen scavenger provides effective corrosion inhibition for metal surfaces due to oxygen contamination, even in the presence of divalent brines. Traditional sulphite-based oxygen scavengers are not effective when divalent brine concentration exceeds 4,000ppm. Reduction oxygen scavenger effectively removes oxygen from high-density calcium chloride brines without causing unwanted sulphate scales which can lead to loss of activity and under deposit corrosion. Reduction oxygen scavenger works synergistically with Prevention™ corrosion inhibitor and Reaction™ scale inhibitor in protecting metal surfaces from corrosion when drilling with divalent brines. Suitable for all brine systems, the Reduction oxygen scavenger is stable to 150°C, effective at low concentrations and environmentally friendly.

Treatment Recommendation Treatment Recommendation

Reduction oxygen scavenger is added to the system at a concentration of 0.5-12 kg/m3, depending on oxygen levels. The product is depleted from the system as it removes oxygen from the drilling fluids. In addition, drilling fluid is constantly aerated across turbulent surfaces in solids control and mixing operations. A maximum pH of 10.5 is recommended for optimal effectiveness.
