Product Description
OptiLube™ is an extremely effective lubricant blend used in oil-based drilling fluids. OptiLube improves OBM fluid performance via reduced torque and stick-slip.
Benefits
OptiLube reduces friction in a diesel-based mud system to synthetic-based mud (SBM)-like lubricity. Accordingly, OptiLube is especially effective in horizontal applications where it minimizes torque and drag, thereby enhancing transmission energy to the bit and increasing rate of penetration (ROP). Additionally, OptiLube reduces stick-slip, thereby increasing drilling efficiency and reducing drillstring sliding. OptiLube does not negatively impact fluid rheology or emulsion properties. Control over product quality is assured as OptiLube is manufactured for worldwide use at the Newpark Manufacturing Facility.
Application
OptiLube is an effective performance enhancer for dieselbased systems and is ideal for high-temperature applications due to its greater than 400°F (204°C) thermal stability. OptiLube may also have stick-slip benefits in other base-oil systems. Its wellbore lubricating qualities are enhanced in fluids where the overall solids content – particularly the management of drilled solids – is maintained at optimum levels. OptiLube is suitable for use in systems formulated with low clay content or in clay-free formulations. Suitable for application in cold-weather climates. OptiLube is PDC bit compatible.
Treatment Recommendation
OptiLube is added directly to the fluid system in concentrations of 0.5-4.0% by volume to achieve desired lubricity.
