Product Description

NewPhalt™ shale stabilizer is a modified sulfonated asphalt for use in both water and invert emulsion drilling fluids. It is environmentally friendly and employs chemical and physical mechanisms to control sloughing shale. The exceptional water solubility of the product enhances its capacity to provide shale control, while its insoluble component delivers physical wellbore plugging characteristics. NewPhalt shale stabilizer also reduces filtrate and enhances filter cake deposition.

Application

NewPhalt shale stabilizer can be added to any water or invert emulsion drilling fluid system to stabilize zones of reactive and/or sloughing shale.

Treatment Recommendation

NewPhalt shale stabilizer may be added to any water or invert emulsion system in concentrations of 2-8 lb/bbl, depending upon conditions. As a preventative treatment, or to achieve initial fluid loss control, 2-4 lb/bbl is recommended. For controlling severe sloughing shale sections, 4-8 lb/bbl is recommended.
