LAFAYETTE. La., Oct. 22, 2013 – Innovation in ground protection, enhanced worker safety and improved operational efficiency took center stage at this year’s Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition (LAGCOE), where Newpark Mats and Integrated Services (NMIS), a unit of Newpark Resources, Inc. (NYSE: NR) was honored with a Spotlight on New Technology Award.
Newpark was recognized for its precision engineered DURA-BASE® Advanced-Composite Mat System on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette. NMIS exhibited during the event, using a new booth design that features the massive DURA-BASE mats as flooring, offering a more tactile experience for attendees.
“It’s always gratifying to have our company recognized for the level of technology we provide to our customers. This LAGCOE award is just the latest example of the industry recognition Newpark has received,” said Jeff Juergens, President of Newpark Mats and Integrated Services. “The DURA-BASE® system continually provides value and cost savings to our customers in the oil and gas industry, and we see this award as a testament to our company’s commitment to R&D and innovation.”
DURA-BASE is used widely throughout the oil and gas sector as a tough, field-proven solution for drilling and completion operations working on sensitive or difficult terrain. DURA-BASE’s rugged non-slip, advanced-composite formulation is tested to support loads up to 1000 pounds per square inch and is ideal for supporting heavy equipment. This superior load bearing capacity is ideal for temporary access roads and drilling pads. The mats also drastically cut down on the amount of gravel aggregate needed for site preparation, as well as related trucking and remediation costs.
“Of all the applications we received for the 2013 LAGCOE 'Spotlight on New Technology', Newpark was selected as one of the winners for having pushed the limits of innovation with their DURA-BASE system. From the cost and time saved, to the environmental and worker safety benefits it provides, this system is a tremendous boon to oil and gas operators." said Greg Stutes, LAGCOE Technical Session Committee Chairman. "It is through the hard work, creativity and 'out-of-the-box' thinking of companies like Newpark that extraordinary new technologies are developed to support our industry.”
The interlocking system forms a continuous surface that prevents differential movement or shifting, while its anti-skid tread design enhances worker safety. Each mat is also designed as a single, self-contained piece that doesn’t require pins or fasteners, and limits biological cross-contamination between jobs. The mats weigh over 50 percent less than wooden mats; an attribute that saves considerable time and transportation expense.
To complement its DURA-BASE offering, Newpark recently introduced the DURA-BASE® T-REX™ Mat Cleaning System to address the time and cost uncertainties associated with washing mats for reuse. T-REX is a fully automated, fully contained mobile system that tackles the toughest contaminants in one pass, and can operate 24 hours a day. And by recycling the water used for cleaning, T-REX helps customers reduce the cost of water transportation and disposal in comparison to manual power washing.
Both the DURA-BASE and T-REX systems are available on a rental basis directly from NMIS, whose expert technicians can also perform site preparation, rapid mat installation and remediation services. DURA-BASE is also available via select partner distributors.
