Paints and Coatings:

Baryte is used in coatings for its corrosion-resistant quality and chemical inertness. Barium sulfate will not react with any other chemical and will not turn yellow. The ExBar® W series is a bright white powder that can be used as a neutral color base for all color compounds. The ExBar W1 product can be used as a TiO2 extender in paint and coatings compounds. The particle size distribution is closely controlled to prevent oversized particles in finished product.

Calcium Carbonate is used in coatings for its economic cost savings and physical properties to extend binders in formulations. Calcium carbonate is the most widely used and versatile mineral filler in the world.

Plastics and Rubber:

Barium sulfate is used in plastics to reduce resin demand. The density of barite is much higher than most mineral fillers and is used to weight plastic parts. ExBar W1 can be used as a TiO2 extender to reduce cost. The refractive index for barium sulfate is very high and only second to that of titanium dioxide.

Calcium carbonate is compounded into plastic and rubber compounds to reduce overall costs in formulations.

Building Materials and Construction:

Calcium carbonate is utilized in the construction industry, both as a building material and as an ingredient in cement. It’s used to make mortar used in bonding bricks, concrete blocks, roofing shingles, rubber compounds, chinking, plaster, decorative cement and tiles. Calcium carbonate decomposes to form carbon dioxide and lime, an important material in making steel, glass, and paper. Due to its antacid properties, calcium carbonate is used in the agriculture and water treatment markets to neutralize acidic conditions in both soil and water.
